What does “Verment” stand for?

We love fermentation, and we’re sure you do too! That’s why we decided to incorporate the German 'V' and call our Kombucha Verment Kombucha! Funny, huh?!

Why Verment Kombucha?

Our Kombucha contributes to your gut health but also enhance your mental clarity and mood. What else do you need for sluggish days? Additionally, we only choose organic ingredients for the fermentation process. Even the containers where the SCOBY metabolizes the organic sugar and other tea compounds are of the highest quality to ensure the maximum quality of our product.

Besides our rigorous process, we, the creators of VERMENT Kombucha, have a deep knowledge and understanding of brewing. We strive to make a tasty product that is accessible to a wider audience.

Does Verment Kombucha contain coffein?

Tea leaves naturally contain some caffeine(xanthine alkaloid, which is found also in plants like coffee and cacao besides the tea), along with a group of B vitamins and small amounts of iron. Unlike other refreshments and energy drinks, which are high in sugar and contain artificial additives, Kombucha's natural ingredients combined with the organic acids produced during fermentation ensure an energy boost without dehydration.

How much caffeine is in the Verment Kombucha?

15mg

Kombucha is caffeinated because the tea leaves used to make kombucha (black, green, white, oolong) naturally contain caffeine. Although caffeine is naturally found in kombucha, it is extremely minimal, averaging around just 15mg per serving – barely noticeable to even those sensitive to caffeine.

Does Verment Kombucha contain alcohol?

Kombucha is an alternative to alcoholic beverages, even though the natural fermentation process results in less than 0.5% alcohol.

Is Verment Kombucha vegan?

Yes, Verment Kombucha is 100% vegan, and all ingredients that we use are vegan as well.

IS Verment Kombucha pasteurized?

Pasteurization is a process of applying controlled heat to various products to ensure that the food or beverage has a longer shelf life. During pasteurization, various microorganisms do not survive the heat. We believe that raw and unpasteurized Kombucha retains all the benefits that make this beverage so popular. That is why we recommend storing Verment Kombucha in the fridge for up to 6 months.

What is SCOBY?

SCOBY stands for Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast—a living culture that, when added to sweet tea (a mixture of tea and sugar), starts feeding on the sugar and produces healthy byproducts of the fermentation process, such as beneficial organic and amino acids, enzymes, and probiotics. But that’s not all! SCOBY grows in size over time and is completely edible. Want to try something new in the kitchen? You can blend SCOBY with other fruits in your smoothies, stir-fry it with vegetables, marinate it with your favourite recipe, or even incorporate it into your face mask or scrub routine. Now that’s what we call sustainability!

How can I keep Kombucha safe at home?

The pH levels in Kombucha need to stay between 2.5 and 4.2. Keeping your favorite beverage in the fridge ensures its safety.

Why is Kombucha a fizzy drink?

The reason your favorite healthy beverage is fizzy is due to the byproduct of fermentation. During fermentation, Kombucha becomes naturally carbonated, resulting in its characteristic fizziness.

Can I shake Verment Kombucha before opening the bottle?

We strongly advise against shaking your Kombucha. Verment Kombucha is a fizzy drink under pressure, which means that if you shake it, it may explode.

What is Sichuan pepper?

Sichuan pepper, also known as Sichuanese or Szechuan pepper, is a key ingredient in Chinese cuisine. Despite the name, it is not actually a pepper. These small "peppercorns" are the berries of the prickly ash tree, which belongs to the citrus family. Harvested just once a year in late summer, these tiny fruits are carefully handpicked from the branches and left to dry naturally in the sun.

There are two main types of Sichuan pepper: red and green. While both have citrus notes, they differ in flavor. The green Sichuan pepper has a more floral taste and is also rarer.

What is the optimal brewing cycle for making kombucha at home?

The brewing cycle for kombucha depends on many factors, such as temperature and your personal preference for taste. Usually, fermentation time should be between 7 and 21 days.

How do I know if my brewed Kombucha is healthy?

The very first thing is that your first batch shall not have any mold, which usually looks like a blue or white fuzz on top of your SCOBY. Other than that, a slightly vinegary taste is nothing to worry about. Another sign of healthy and safe Kombucha is SCOBY growth over time, as well as yeast activity, which is expressed with white strands in your drink. Another sign is the color of the batch, which can be slightly darker or golden depending on the tea. Last but not least, we advise you to not only taste your first batch but to smell it. Any smell of rotten eggs or a sulfurous note is usually a sign that something did not go well.

How much SCOBY do I need for my first batch of Kombucha?

For 3-4 Liters of Kombucha, a perfect ration would be from 14 cm SCOBY, which should be 2-3 cm thick as well. Plus 1-2 starter liquids for each liter of sweetened tea.

What is a complete no-go for brewing at home?

We strongly believe that similar to the dough, SCOBY needs also a lot of respect and a peaceful environment for growing and making wonders for your perfect kombucha. That is why we would love to advise you to always wash your hands before touching a living organism or to use gloves. Besides this, it is recommended to avoid smoking close to the space where Kombucha is brewed. Other environmental factors include direct sunlight or too warm as well as too cold temperature, not ventilated air, toxic chemicals, or other fermentation processes (risk for cross-contamination) close to Kombucha.

What is the best temperature for brewing?

We advise brewing at room temperature, ideally between 24-29 Celsius. Anything below 18-19 Celsius has a risk for a weaker batch and therefore goes to mold, as the bacteria cannot acidify the brew to protect it from contamination.

How much Verment Kombucha can I drink, and how often?

For beginners, we recommend starting slowly to allow your body to adjust. Generally, there are no strict limits on the amount of Kombucha you can consume daily. Fun fact: you can enjoy up to one liter of Verment Kombucha every day, especially on those hot summer days!
